Title: Chinese Hukou Reform

Abstract: Over the past several years, with the opening of China to the West and the marketization of much of the economy, many migrant workers are migrating to the cities. They are in search of better economic opportunities. With that in mind, the Chinese Central Government has made promises of reforming the Hukou system to help these migrant workers. I will discuss whether the central government has the ability or will to truly carry out these reforms.
